Description
Ask any Mexican where their coffee comes from and they will mention Coatepec first and Chiapas second. The small town of Coatepec, almost attached to Xalapa, the state capital, is literally surrounded by coffee plantations. The flat fields make growing coffee easy and having the port of Veracruz relatively close by helps for the export. But the climate in the area Xalapa-Coatepec can be harsh for coffee plants, with very occasional even snow in winter.
Coffee from Coatepec is generally mild in taste and goes very well as filter coffee; an important reason for its popularity in Mexico as Mexicans generally prefer to drink filter coffee and don’t drink espresso that much.
